Individual & Couples Sex TherapySexual issues can — and do — happen to anyone and sexuality is more than just the sensations in our bodies. Our sexual self is a complex, nuanced, and ever-changing fusion of all our parts: the biological, the physical, the emotional, the mental, the relational, the spiritual. As you can see, there's so much more going on besides just the physical act.
Our sexuality is a core part of who we are. It is how we express ourselves in and out of the bedroom. But many people either don't know exactly why sex creates confusing feelings for them or they do not know how to get the sex life they want. If our sex life is suffering then we are suffering. I am here to help. |
Society has all kinds of ideas about what is “normal”sexuality. Ideas about sex drive; effortless arousal; strong erections and good control over ejaculation for men; powerful (and perhaps multiple) orgasms for both men and women; and a never-ending pressure for variety and experimentation are just a few messages we have all received. And yet when we are sexual with our partners relationship dynamics can frequently yet silently emerge: undercurrents related to gender role expectations, power and control, culture, religion, dominance and submission, and/or politics and economics are just a few.
If we are bringing all this and more into the bedroom, it’s no wonder some people experience issues or avoidance. In our sex-negative culture, these are difficult things to talk about.
